Hazard Identification Surveys:

Hazard Identification

LAPIDUS Safety Consulting has conducted hazard identification surveys for many of employers. Please see the list of types of employers and clients under the heading of Clients. Surveys assist employers with recognizing hazards that management might never have previously recognized. In some cases, doors are opened that have not been entered. A priority is given along with an estimated cost to correct.

Each identified hazard is given an Action Number that includes the year, month, and individual number of the hazard. The Action Number is a reference point for future reviews of what was identified and the current status of the item.

Oftentimes, employers request both a Program Review and a Hazard Identification Survey. Together, these activities provide management with a comprehensive review of the status of their safety efforts.

Self-Insurance Audits Some states require employers that want to become self-insured for workers' compensation in the state to have an objective loss control audit conducted by an external certified safety professional (CSP).

Bob Lapidus has performed many of these audits that include a review similar to what is mentioned under the headings of Safety Program Reviews and Hazard Identification Surveys.

Bob reviews current losses and what is being done to mitigate these losses. He then performs an on-site hazard identification survey to ascertain what hazards are present and that could lead to an occupational injury or illness. Anything identified that is a violation of an OSHA standard is either designated as a General Violation or a Serious Violation. That latter designation requires correction prior to the organization getting their self-insurance certification.
